Description: Explore the world around you through the lens of a camera! In this interactive week, children will learn to utilize manual DSLR cameras, while practicing various still photography techniques. In this workshop-based camp, each activity may include: exploring outdoor photography, using light boxes and graphic design programs to create an ad for something they love, taking photos of their friends in the CK indoor studio, long exposure photography, learning all about composition and style, and much more! Creativity and technology come together in this camp for a truly fun learning experience. Kids will then frame their photos and the week will culminate in a photography show to celebrate!

Description: Does your child have a passion for cooking? In this cooking class, students will discover how to prepare delicious international and American dishes safely and skillfully. We'll explore diverse recipes from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America, all kid-friendly and perfect for after-school cooking. During our sessions, your child will play kids' games from other countries, learn food terms from around the world, and receive simple recipes they can use at home. This course is tailored for younger students and focuses on microwave cooking. Recipes include Italian Lasagna, Ghanaian Fufu Dumplings, Japanese Rice Balls (Nigiri), Mexican Quesadilla and Salsa, American Mug Cake, Chinese Chaofan, and French Fondue.

Description: Calling all Artists, Engineers, Creators, Gamers and Coders! In this camp, the students get introduced to Minecraft (an extremely popular creative world-building platform) by Microsoft. This is a platform where engineers and artists can show their creativity. Students explore art and architecture and plan to create basic and complex designs. Students will learn to explore the world by walking, swimming and flying! They will build the world, starting with basic structures, all the way to the most complex designs. They will also learn about materials starting with simple to compound metals. Students will build different types of worlds and work as a team in a shared world.

Description: Develop your own graphic novel characters, create fiction and non-fiction stories and start the first chapter of a new graphic novel! In Graphic Novel Production, Scholastic graphic novelist Jonathan Todd, the author/illustrator of TIMID, Target’s April 2024 Middle Reader Book Club Pick, will coach you on story plotting, an autobiographical approach to comics-making, visual comics planning, lettering, drawing, and inking your comics. At the end of the week, you’ll have the opportunity to paste-up reproductions of your comics pages into a mini-comic.

Description: Following the high demand from last summer, It's rocket science returns in a new and expanded explorers+ format. Students will will understand the fundamentals of rocket flight and how amateur model rocketry can be used as a starting point to practice skills and techniques for building larger rockets while gaining fundamental engineering and science knowledge .Led by a Meadowbrook Faculty member, we’ll design rockets digitally, build them as a group, and ultimately celebrate our own launch day, gathering data on how our rockets performed after lift-off! This course will be a blast for students new to rocketry or those who took It's rocket science in 2023 alike! Branches will supply computers, but students who already have a windows or mac notebook are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own to the program. If your rocket successfully returns, you'll leave with your own custom designed rocket! Explorers+ price: $999

Description: Always wanted to be a YouTuber and have 10,000+ followers? Want to take your videos to the next level by learning from professional filmmakers? This camp steps away from narrative filmmaking, and focuses on content and techniques that your kid is passionate about. From how-to videos, product reviews, and cooking shows, to tv series, news broadcasts, and gamer videos, the CK team will teach your child the tools necessary to create content for their favorite social platforms. Professional teaching artists work closely with your child, building skills to create videos that they care about. We will answer your child's technical questions one-on-one, and set them up for success on their channel! For those interested, we will cover branding, making your videos searchable, and the steps to gaining thousands of followers. CinemaKidz will also spend a good deal of time discussing online presence, responsibility, privacy concerns, and general safety. A great camp for beginners as well as the more advanced influencer.

Description: Campers will learn how to think like a creative entrepreneur and compete in a crowded marketplace with unique solutions to tomorrow’s problems. Working with professional tools will give campers a competitive edge and help them learn what it takes to take an idea to market. Campers will collaborate with other campers in completing group and individual projects. These entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to build a startup with their friends, create sophisticated websites, develop marketing plans, and 3D print prototypes. At the end of this busy week, these new start-ups will pitch their projects to a panel of iCode’s top sharks and learn how to negotiate funding!

Description: Roblox is one of the most popular online game platforms to play and create one’s own games. Roblox helps students socialize and expand their analytical and problem-solving skills while having fun with their friends. The games are easy to interact with, even for young children. In this course students will be introduced to concepts around game construction, with an introduction to Roblox Studio, where they can generate a random world or build on pre-fabricated themes, templates and storylines. In this course, students will also learn about Digital Citizenship, Internet Security, and other critical concepts and develop habits and practices for safe online interactions with others.

Description: Students will explore the powerful math problem-solving tool, bar modeling from the beginning. Bar modeling is used extensively in the Singapore Math program and allows students in grades 3 - 5 to solve problems often found in Algebra texts not by assigning variables, but by drawing the math relationships using bars. Your child will be amazed at their ability to solve complex, multi-step problems just by drawing!

Description: Bed Wars is one of Minecraft's most popular team survival games and we take it to the next level as a competitive esports program. The goal of Bed Wars is to be the last player (or team) standing. Gamers must destroy their competitors' beds so that they cannot respawn. Once the competition is eliminated the game is over and the remaining individual/team wins. Participants will focus on competing in both solo and team based challenges using Minecraft Education Edition.

Description: Every minute, 500 hours of YouTube videos are watched. YouTube has become the premier (and de-facto) platform for creators of all kinds to film and produce content that reaches millions of people in an instant. The YouTube Producers camp is the stepping stone for future content creators, to come and learn the skills that will challenge and push their video editing skills to produce content that draws maximum viewership and pushes the content to the top of rankings. During the course campers will also get a working knowledge of digital cameras, editing audio, video, and producing content that is not just unique but desirable to a large or specialized audience. All campers will also get an introductory tutorial on what to be cautious about before posting their videos to YouTube and how to retain privacy and be safe while still being a superstar. Campers will need permission from parents prior to any videos being posted to a YouTube channel. Come to the YouTube Producers camp and access the secrets to creating content to create a fan following and become an online superstar!

Through guided exercises and personalized feedback, students will learn how to bring their ideas to life and create stories that will captivate readers. Younger learners will work on creating and illustrating their own cool chapter books. Regardless of age, all you need is a pen and paper, and you're ready to start writing!

Description: Interested in drawing, art, or design? In this class, you’ll learn how to use your doodling skills for real, by doing design projects for local nonprofits or small businesses. You will learn how to make professional posters and art that people want to pay for, and you’ll ultimately design posters and ads for real organizations with good causes. Our students' work has been used in ads and online Instagrams posts by the Special Olympics, Martha's Kitchen, and local shelters.

Description: Come explore various techniques of stop-motion animation in our week-long animation-workshop! Campers create abstract and narrative tales with a wide range of materials including: legos, clay, architectural modeling materials, wire, foam, and so much more! Campers build mini-movie sets and learn how to light them, build camera rigs, use gels and create various on-set effects. We encourage children to experiment with different camera angles, add special effects, sounds and music. Children build their own props and use green screens to bring their ideas to life. Combine live action with stop-motion animation to make something truly unique and special. Kids will complete several projects over the course of the week. This is a fantastic class for kids with big imaginations!

Description: Campers will learn how to think like a creative entrepreneur and compete in a crowded marketplace with unique solutions to tomorrow’s problems. Working with professional tools will give campers a competitive edge and help them learn what it takes to take an idea to market. Campers will collaborate with other campers in completing group and individual projects. These entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to build a startup with their friends, create sophisticated websites, develop marketing plans, and 3D print prototypes. At the end of this busy week, these new start-ups will pitch their projects to a panel of iCode’s top sharks and learn how to negotiate funding!

Previous expierence of coding will be helpful but not required! Description: Art meets technology. Using a combination of 2-D and 3-D tools, campers will sketch and draw models and animations, and apply their own touches to stylize photos. Students will design 3-D models both in a tablet and by using 3-D tools that allow unlimited creative possibilities and will also learn to use code to make interactive art. Campers will learn to express themselves utilizing the digital tools of the art industry. Various pieces will be created throughout the week which will then be shared, and discussed as a group, giving these artists the crucial experience of personal feedback. Some of the areas that each new artist will explore include: photo manipulation, digital painting, 3D sculpting, and programming art! Campers will create an art gallery style presentation for audiences to experience and enjoy their projects.

Description: Create comics that can raise awareness about important issues or interesting people! In Comics Journalism Workshop, Scholastic graphic novelist and former journalist Jonathan Todd (author/illustrator of TIMID) will coach tweens in the interviewing, reporting and drawing skills needed to create a comics journalism piece. (News in the form of comics!: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics_journalism )You’ll get a chance to choose a modern issue to research and draw about, including interviewing people at camp or through Zoom, drawing caricatures and learning techniques to create comics from real life. At the end of the week, you’ll have the opportunity to scan your pieces and share them online or through zines you’ll create!
